BVS Akustik

BVS Akustik GmbH & Co. KG from Verl (East Westphalia) has been active in the furniture industry since 1990 and produces custom acoustic panels with CNC saws, purpose-built drilling lines and an in-house laser system. Almost all board materials are processed: solid wood, veneered, composite and decor boards, each cut, edge-finished and lacquered to the customer's specification. The range covers drilled (AKUSTIbohr), micro-perforated (AKUSTIpur), slotted (AKUSTIpan) and sound-absorbing partition elements (AKUSTItrenn), each in numerous hole patterns and build-up depths. The elements are available in fire classes B1 and B2 and, for sports halls, with certified ball-impact resistance. References include Princeton University, NYU and the Emser Therme.

Description

AKUSTIbohr is the BVS classic: a drilled acoustic panel made from almost any board material, whether solid wood with lively grain, veneered, composite or decor board. Drilling is based on a 32 mm grid, which allows a wide range of hole diameters, grids and hole patterns with clean hole edges and, on request, perforation on one side only. Cutting, edge margins, edge finishing and lacquering follow the specification for each project; with 8 mm perforation, concealed screw fixing with special dowels is possible. Acoustically, the panel only becomes effective through the interplay of perforation and the build-up behind it: acoustic fleece, insulation and an air gap behind the perforated panel form an absorber whose frequency response can be tuned through the hole pattern. Sound absorption is determined per hole pattern in the reverberation room to EN ISO 354 and rated to EN ISO 11654; for design work the full third-octave curve matters alongside the single-number rating. AKUSTIbohr is available in fire classes B1 and B2 and with certified ball-impact resistance for sports halls.

Princeton University

AKUSTIbohr panels were used at the renowned Princeton University in New Jersey, where Albert Einstein once taught. Together with acoustically hard, unperforated panels, more than 5,000 m² were produced as wall and ceiling cladding for music and rehearsal rooms, among others. For students practising on their own, the building contains smaller rooms suspended from a primary structure so that they transmit no sound through vibration. These are also fitted internally with AKUSTIbohr panels on the walls and ceilings.

Emser Therme

For this thermal bath, around 900 m² of AKUSTIbohr panels were produced as ceiling cladding for the interior as well as the covered outdoor area. The panels made from moisture-resistant maritime pine were given a hole diameter of 18 mm and drilled on a 32 mm grid. They were fitted with various, in part complex cut-outs, for example for ventilation outlets, and delivered ready for installation.
